The Staff Accountant with American Trust is responsible for depositing checks and maintaining a check log, recording bank activity daily, ad hoc invoicing, accurately collecting and applying accounts receivable, expense and accrual review, preparation closing entries and some reconciliations of bank and other accounts as assigned. The Staff Accountant will be part of a growing accounting team and should continuously look for ways to improve their processes and grow in their position.
The Staff Accountant is familiar with standard accounting procedures, can work independently on completing routine tasks and will work closely with their supervisor on more complicated requests.
Responsibilities:
Collect checks from PO Boxes, add to check log and deposit into the bank account using a check scanner.
Accurately apply payments received against outstanding accounts receivable.
Assist in preparation of journal entries and financial reports.
Accurately record entries as assigned by supervisor.
Prepare ad hoc invoices.
Record bank transactions on a daily basis and update cash tracking.
Assist with annual financial audits and other regulatory audits as needed.
Prepare various reports as needed to assist management and other employees of the company as needed.
Assist in other accounting activities and projects as directed by management.
Function in accordance with established standards, procedures, and applicable laws.
Always maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Skills/Abilities:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university required.
2 years experience in an accounting role is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, specifically experience using Excel.
Ability to quickly learn new processes and software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Exceptional organization and time management skills.
